Whooooo wee! What a ridiculous day. I was so busy, but I made sure to stop and notice my surroundings. Being in a new city is like creativity overload. I'm seeing so many things that remind me how beautiful my world is. I'm very lucky to have this opportunity. I'm blessed that I'm able to plant roots in a different part of the country. I make sure I don't take anything for granted. Here are some things that made me happy today
- Project Accomplished- I finished my PowerPoint for school and I presented it! It's nice to have that weight off my shoulders. Schoolwork can be daunting, but I have a class of wonderful, and I mean wonderful, people. It almost doesn't feel like work because they make it easier to learn, but still, it's good to be done! I think it went pretty well too!
-Palyuuxaash (Pal-you-haash) and Role Models- I played an Indian stick game today and it was a blast! My instructor for my Native American language class is an 87 year old elder from the Yakima tribe. It was such a joy seeing her so happy. She really got into the game! It's pretty much a guessing game. I don't want to screw up the directions because I'm still learning, so I won't go into it too much. There was a wonderful moment when I turned to look at Virginia (my instructor) and I saw her grinning the most wonderful grin. She's so young at heart, I feel so privileged to have such a strong women as my instructor. She's taught me about respect without saying a word. What else can I say? I am very, very moved by her.
-Dough Co.- I ate a Chicken Parmesan cal zone with a friend. We took turns reading each other the silly personal ads that litter the weekly newspaper. Some people are downright freaky. Freak-ay ;)
-The Christmas Spirit- I went to the mall today because I was in a really randy mood and I was looking to drive somewhere. Living downtown doesn't give me many opportunities to drive over 30, so I took the beltline to Valley River Center; that's the mall for all you non-Eugene people. I'm not a mall person, never have been, but when I was there I had a great moment while I was staring at the Hickory Farms cheese. The loudspeakers started playing "Silent Night" and wasn't a crappy musaK version, it was the real thing, and it was beautiful. Calming, serene and so out of place. That was the best part.
-Here's To Being Young At Heart- Dinosaur stickers! Rar! I got some zoo stickers too, but the dino stickers are fuzzy! Double rar!
-Innocence With A Dash Of Assertiveness- I was walking through the mall and I saw a little girl on Santa's lap. I'm guessing she doesn't have a chimney in her house because she asked him how he was going to deliver the presents. Santa said, "Oh I have many ways of getting around," and the little girl looked at him and said, "Well you can always come in through the back door!" It was so logical and to the point! She looked so sure of herself. It reminded me of something I would've said when I was that age. I walked to my car with a smile.
-Pink Panties- I'm not going to get into it too much because there are some things a girl just won't talk about, BUT I got a free pair of panties with my purchase at Victoria's Secret. Stellllar
-Moments Of Clarity- I drove to a woodsy area today and I watched the sun set. The sky was so clear I could see the mountains in the distance and I was able to see the dark side of the moon. The sun set was gorgeous. I've never seen such colors! The sky was cerulean, powder pink, buttery yellow and creamsicle orange. It looked like sherbert ice cream, I swear. And I stood there in the grass and mud in shoes I shouldn't have been wearing and I grinned the whole time. I didn't have a coat, I was freezing, and I couldn't have been happier. At one point I told my cronies to be quiet and we all stood in silence. It took my breath away. Silence can result in such a peaceful mood. I could have stood there all night, but my hands were going numb. I needed to see that sunset, it was imperative. Sometimes I have moments where I question my intentions for coming here and then I remember to stop...take it all in...and appreciate. The answers are everywhere. I think that moment in particular was worth remembering. The most beautiful thing about it was the fact that I didn't have my camera.
-A Home Cooked Meal- My neighbor/amazing friend made me spaghetti with fresh baked bread. It was effing DEE-LISH. Hats off to the chef!
-Peckerheads- I was fortunate enough to see a John Waters film tonight called "Pecker" and I loved it. Edward Furlong is the main character and it also stars Christina Ricci. It's set in Baltimore and it was damn good to see those towers again. It's funny seeing Charm City in a movie because it just looks like home to me. The movie is about a young honorable photographer who gets discovered, but then realizes the drawbacks of a photograph. I'd recommend it to someone who takes photos. It's humble, inspiring and makes you aware of the hypocrisy that unfortunately walks hand in hand with art. Great movie. Netflix it!
-She Came In Through The Bathroom Window- I saved the best for last. I bought a book today called "The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics" and it's filled to the BRIM with Beatles lyrics and trippy pictures. It put me on a Beatles kick and I danced around my living room to some Beatles tunes as I was taking the photos shown below. The illustrations are such a mind fuck so I had to take pictures of my favorite ones.
How cool are they? I love the girl with the wings, she might be my favorite. The egg is a good one too.
Well that's my cue, I hope everyone has a great night and I will talk to you little fishies tomorrow. Remember, find beauty everywhere and refer to the bottom of this blog if you're ever wondering what you should do with your life. Brand those words into your brain and smile.
This is your life, make sure you're living it.
